Hong Kong Sailing Federation and Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club join forces to host Hong Kong Race Week

The Hong Kong Sailing Federation (HKSF) is joining forces with the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club to host Hong Kong Race Week 2015. Incorporating the second leg of the Asian Youth Cup, this dinghy regatta is scheduled to be held over four days from 14 to 18 February 2015.

Hong Kong Race Week was created in 2014 by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, with the intent of establishing a signature event for the Asian Games, Olympic, Para Olympic and ISAF youth classes. Following on from a highly successful inaugural event featuring eight classes and 150 competitors, the 2015 event will be enlarged to feature a leg of the Asian Youth Cup, bringing the top youth sailors from around the region to Hong Kong.

In a reshuffling of the calendar, HKSF’s International Regatta, traditionally held in October, will be merged into Hong Kong Race Week. Speaking on behalf of HKSF, its President , Warwick Downes, said “We are very pleased to be organising a major international regatta backed by the expertise and marine resources of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, together with the use of its Middle Island facility as a host venue.”

Speaking in response for the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, Rear Commodore Sailing Anthony Day said “We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with HKSF in giving Hong Kong Race Week real international reach through its strong ties to other regional sailing federations. With that reach and RHKYC's resources and experience this event will be the most ambitious youth dinghy regatta Hong Kong has seen representing a terrific opportunity for all participants to gain valuable experience of fleet racing at the highest level.”
